- Nixon approves a plan to expand domestic intelligence-gathering by FBI, CIA, and other agencies. A few days later, he rescinds his approval.
October 20th 1973,
- Nixon fires Archibald Cox and abolishes the office of the special prosecutor. Attorney General Richardson and Deputy Attorney General William D. Ruckelshaus resign. This was called the “Saturday Night Massacre”.
July 24th 1974,
- Supreme Court rules that Nixon must turn over the tape recordings of multiple White House conversation in the case US v. Nixon.
August 8th 1974:,
- Nixon becomes first US president to resign. His Vice President Gerald R. Ford takes over and eventually pardons Nixon of all charges related to the Watergate case.
